This National Park was formed by incorporating most of the forest areas of the then Venugopala Wildlife Park, which was established under Govt. Bandipur National Park in 1985 after a notification dated February 19, 1941, was expanded to cover an area of 874.20 square kilometres and given the name Bandipur.
