The Institute Menezes Braganza is a cultural institution founded by the Portuguese during colonial times in the late nineteenth century. It was taken over by the Goan government in 1997. One of the country’s oldest libraries, Panaji Central Library is housed in the Institute Menezes. Institute Menezes Braganza primarily aims to focus on language, literature, art, and culture and to promote local talent in allied areas. It is famous for literary festivals, conferences, poets' meets, art workshops, exhibitions, elocution contests, debates, recitals and various other events like art competitions.&nbsp;

This institution was named Institute Vasco da Gama in its beginning. It was established on 24th November 1871 and continued to run under this name until Portuguese rule pinnacled in 1961. The Government of Goa re-established this institution as a society under the Indian Registration of Societies Act of 1860. It continued to get official government support.
