Church of our Lady of the Mount is a prominent Roman Catholic church in Old Goa. The church is not flocked by tourists, unlike other places in Goa. It's famous for hosting the Monte music festival held annually. The music festival is an amalgamation of Western and Indian classical forms of music. One gets a spectacular view of the Mandovi river and Chorao and Devar islands atop the mount. This church is a must-visit place if one seeks solitude amidst nature.

Church of our Lady of the Mount is one of the many ancient churches in Old Goa which was built between 1510 &amp; 1519. The church was constructed in 1510 CE by Portuguese general Alfonso de Albuquerque. It is among the oldest churches in Goa and is devoted to Virgin Mary. The church follows the Baroque style of architecture with vaulted cupolas along with Mannerist traces. It has three main altars and the laterite exterior gives a sophisticated look. The church is built on a mount and steps lead to the church. The church was not maintained in the early 2000s and was renovated by a private organisation.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The bird sanctuary shares the same ambience as the church and is an enriching experience. It is a perfect getaway away from skyscrapers and never-ending traffic. All one needs to do is gaze at the sparrows perched on the mangroves or the eagles soaring in the midst of clouds. Early mornings and twilight is the best time to visit the sanctuary. A ferry ride along the Mandovi river is a blissful experience and over 400 species of birds are seen in this sanctuary.
