Classic white Baroque architecture blended with Portuguese flavors and a dash of the touch of Goa, the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church is an excellent structure standing proudly on the Church Square Panaji. The church reflects the Portuguese origins in the land of beaches. The sailors in the early days used to come here and pray. The church had a zigzag staircase of 78 steps.

Though it does not contain the glory of the past days, the <a href="https://universaladventures.in/travel-guide/fort-aguada-in-goa" target="_blank">fort of Aguada</a> is one of the top places to visit in Goa. The marvelous architecture and spell bounding view of the Arabian Sea combine together to make the place a profound tourist spot. It is also recognized as a great spot to watch the sunset. The Chowk of the Pousada is a striking display where paintings are displayed across the white walls. Here the brown terracotta double tiles of the Verandah Roof, the granite mosaic floor, and a curious mix of artificial and natural light filtering projecting on the Chowk add a magnificent effect on the art pieces.

The <a href="https://universaladventures.in/travel-guide/a-guide-to-basilica-of-bom-jesus" target="_blank">Basilica of Bom Jesus</a> is a (Roman) Catholic church and is associated with the Churches and convents of Goa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The basilica is present in old Goa and contains the remains of St. Francis Xavier. The construction work of the church began in 1594. In May 1605, the church was sanctified by the archbishop, Dom Fr. Aleixo de Menezes.

It is a must-visit place in Goa. It is better to plan the trip here in the early morning or late evening. The church will be closed on Sundays. And ideally it is better to wear knee-length clothes to signify the dignity of the church. One can come here with both family and friends.

Commonly known to have been built in the year 1541, the chapel was used by the Portuguese sailors sailing nearby. The chapel was reconstructed in 1609. With time, several changes were put forward to the structure and hence the present-day appearance.
In 1871, the zig-zag staircases were added alongside the pediment and belfry. This was done to prepare for the installation of the second most massive bell- the Augustinian Bell.

Shri Mahalaxmi was worshipped by the Shilahara rulers (750-1030 A.D.) and also by the Kadamba Kings of Goa. It is believed she has been released when the gods and demons were churning the ocean for amrit- the nectar of immortality.This Satvika (peaceful) form of Devi shown in the idol at this temple has a unique feature, that is, she wears a linga on her head.

Protecting the province of Bardez, this fort was one of the first bastions of the Portuguese. Despite being not the biggest fort, it still demands attention because of its majestic grandeur. This fort was considered impregnable because of its tactical construction and strategic positioning.
