Know before you book
- Visiting the Kanha National Park is regulated according to Section 34(1) of the MP Wildlife (Protection) Rules, 1974.
- The visiting season runs from 1 October to 30 June with excursions available in the morning and evening, although the timings vary depending on the season.
- It's important to carry enough drinking water and note that only petrol cars and jeeps are allowed inside the park.
- If you need transportation, privately operated Gypses and Jeeps are available for hire at Khatia and Mukki.
- Be sure to keep enough fuel in your vehicle since supplies at the Kisli petrol pump are uncertain. Other petrol pumps near Kisli are available in Mandla (70 km), Baihar (60 km) and Chilpi (80 km). Plan to go on excursions early in the morning or in the evening when you're most likely to see wild animals.
- Arrive at the entry points at least 30 minutes before the opening time to complete formalities. Authorised guides are compulsory on each excursion, and trained guides are available for hire at the entry points.
- Before setting out on excursions, take time to visit the Orientation Centre to get acquainted with the Reserve, its wildlife, and the rules and ethics of ecotourism.
- Remember not to litter, and if you plan to make a documentary/telefilm/cine film, please obtain prior permission from the Chief Wildlife Warden of Madhya Pradesh.
- Entry and movement of visitors can be regulated by the Field Director for administrative or management purposes.
- Keep in mind that heavy vehicles are not allowed inside the park, and it's important to stay on the road during excursions without getting down from your vehicle.
- Lastly, the speed limit is 20 km per hour, and using a horn or headlights is not allowed.
